Topic: Technology Applications: Sharing Osteopathic Medical School Courses via Videoconferencing
Tuesday, November 12, 2002
3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Review via Distance Technologies:
An Inter-Institutional Partnership
Collaborating faculties at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) and
the Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network (NEOMEN), located in New England,
developed a ten-week, live/interactive review series in osteopathic manipulative
medicine, designed and taught by an inter-institutional corps of medical faculty
utilizing two-way video and web-based course support resources. The target audience
was the medical interns, residents and students at both institutions. Lectures and
hands-on clinical laboratory sessions originated from both institutions. This project
breaks new ground in inter-institutional cooperation, yielding valuable data regarding
the efficacy of teaching manual manipulative techniques through these technologies.
This virtual get together will be presented by Project directors Dr. Robert Cuzzolino of PCOM and Mr. Edward Kittredge of NEOMEN.
The presentation will discuss the need and rationale for the project, will show
segments of the videoconferenced laboratory sessions, and will present findings on
pedagogy and technology that may assist other educators considering multipoint
videoconferenced clinical training with web-based course resources.
To schedule your campus for this event, please contact your campus CAPE Operations Committee Representative who can Register Online for your site to participate.
