Virtual Get-together via Videoconferencing
Topic: Newspaper Portal Opportunity for CAPE Members
Thursday, May 8, 2003
3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Presenters: Mr. Fred Campbell, IMG Services and Mr. Jerry Richter, CAPE Staff
Representatives of the Journal Register Company have approached CAPE to investigate the potential of an alliance
between the Journal Register's 232 non-daily and 7 daily newspapers and CAPE members. The basic assumption is that the
newspaper chain recognizes a responsibility to its communities to provide educational and economic development information and services,
and that the CAPE member institutions are providers and repositories of such resources.
At the very fundamental level, this alliance could consist of the Journal Register providing portals to CAPE institutions
through its newspaper web sites. Intuitively, it seems that there should be a community of interest between CAPE's member institutions
and a firm which controls 120 newspapers in the Eastern Pennsylvania region plus over 100 in Connecticut, Ohio and New York.
The purpose of the Virtual Get Together is specifically to explore the possibilities and to determine the future directions of these discussions.
CAPE is looking for input from its members regarding their needs and ideas on utilization of such resources.
The agenda will include an overview of the training and education portal environment, and a brief report of conversations held thus far.
To schedule your campus for this event, please contact your campus CAPE Operations Committee Representative who can Register Online for your site to participate.
