Topic: ADA: The Complete Picture in Distance Learning

Presenters: Denis Anson, Dr. Molly Vitale, Christopher Sutzko - College Misericordia
This presentation will highlight the following:
- issues of universal web access from an ADA perspective, specifically priority one and two
coding errors that make web sites inaccessible to the disabled.
- discussion and demonstration of various assistive technologies that are used by individuals with a
variety of disabilities. This discussion will be aimed at expanding the awareness of needs of and solutions
for those with various disabilities.
- accommodations and limitations that assistive technologies place on
individuals in a web-based environment.
- issues that arise in terms of reasonable accommodations that will keep an institution compliant with ADA
regulations.
- interactive discussion - questions from participants
About the Presenters:
Denis Anson is Associate Professor, Division of Health Sciences. He has been actively involved in computer and assistive
technology applications for rehabilitation for fifteen years. In addition to his many publications on assistive technology, he is the author of Alternative Computer Access:
A Guide to Selection.
Dr. Molly Vitale is Assistant Professor, Division of Behavioral Science. Molly has developed assistive technology courses for teacher education students and
also provides workshops in assistive technologies for inservice teachers.
Christoper Sutzko is Coordinator of Career Development. Chris has experience in therapeutic staff support, coordinated services for children and young adults
with developmental disabilities, and has also worked as a case manager in the area of vocational rehabilitation. Chris is also an adjunct professor in psychology at the College.
