Virtual Get-together via Videoconferencing
Topic: NASA Project on Predicting the Temperature
Wednesday, November 14, 2001
3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Presenters: William Horst, Jr. and Dr. Joseph McCade, Millersville University
Over the past several years, curriculum integration has been the focus of a great deal of energy in the K-12 educational community
and beyond. It is inarguable that the skills needed to be successful in day to day life do no function independently of each other
- likewise neither do the skills we hope to instill in our students. Whereas principles of all disciplines in a complete school
curriculum have the natural tendency to support each other, development is necessary to make the educational process support this
actuality.
To address this issue, with funding from a NASA-CAPE grant, researchers at Millersville University sought to construct a conceptual
framework to use the natural integrations between math, science and technology education to create an interdisciplinary unit on temperature
prediction. During this videoconference we will explore the resulting modular prototype and discuss the projects successes and future
developmental issues.
About the presenters:
William H. Horst, Jr. is a Master's student in the department of Industry and Technology at Millersville University. He has worked extensively
within the program on several research projects and as an instructor. His current employment objective is to work as a technologist specializing
in curriculum development, instructional technology and Web design at the university level.
Dr. Joseph M. McCade is a professor in the Department of Industry and Technology at Millersville University. His undergraduate and graduate
teaching responsibilities include a variety of topics from control technology to master's level technology education pedagogy and practice.
Dr. McCade is grounded in a wide variety of teaching experiences that range from K-12 public school experience through graduate level instruction
for technology education. His current goals aside from his regular teaching duties include working on the development for a funded project aimed
at further addressing the ideals of curriculum integration.
