CAPE Sponsored Virtual Event - LIVE Webcast

Topic: Learning Simulations

Tuesday, May 25, 2004
2:00 - 3:30 PM
Presenters: CAPE Staff and Mitch Kick, Cyber Technology Group

Simulation-based learning can be a powerful pedagogical tool for achieving improved learning outcomes. Research on learning reveals that context and practice are two key elements for retaining and applying new knowledge, and "learning by doing" can lead to measurable gains in student performance on board exams, clinically-based practicums, and in the field. Simulations are widely seen as vital to the future of educating workers in many fields, yet adoption of these technologies is at an early stage. As such, simulation-based learning can demonstrate an institution's commitment to pioneering leading-edge pedagogy and distinctive leadership in the academic community.

CAPE has identified Cyber Technology Group as a potential partner whose software and solutions can deliver unique advantages to educational institutions, especially in the field of learning simulations. CTG's Learning Simulation Solution provides a comprehensive environment for creating and executing simulation exercises related to decision-making in the context of uncertainty. The simulation authoring tools enable the creation of collaborative, role-based, experiential learning simulations tied to specific scenarios. The solution helps assemble a variety of decision-support resources and information as appropriate for each simulation. Finally, the solution liberates simulation exercises from the desktop, enabling mobile distributed, real-time simulations.

We believe these simulations could enhance the learning experience across a variety of disciplines, but especially in fields related to health care, first responders, or other fields with clinical or certification components.

In this virtual conference we will define potential areas for a collaborative pilot project, and identify CAPE members who may have interest in participating. The intent is to pursue such a project on a potentially funded or shared-cost basis.

More information on Cyber Technology Group and its Learning Simulations Solution is available on a powerpoint presentation and an Adobe White Paper. Please view the presentation and white paper before the virtual conference so that we can spend as much time as possible in interactive dialogue during the meeting.

To register for the virtual conference, complete the Online Individual Registration Form. Registered participants will then receive instructions on how to access the live webcast.
