Virtual Get-together via Videoconferencing
Topic: Higher Education and the Certification System in Information Technology
Wednesday, April 18, 2001
3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Presenter: Mr. Donald Dilley, CEO Riverhead Training, Inc.
Hosted by: Mount Aloysius College
Over the past decade, a certification system has emerged that provides credentialing
to individuals employed in information technology and telecommunications. This new system of certifications
has developed outside the traditional corridors of higher education and has won the
acceptance of employers in IT and other technology-based industries
worldwide.
As colleges and universities seek to stay current on the latest technologies, they
are also beginning to recognize that this new form of education has developed
that appears to be addressing unfulfilled needs in technology education. Recently some higher educational
institutions, including Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, PA, have chosen to
become active participants in the certification system by establishing
partnerships with certified trainers and incorporating vendor certification
training into existing bachelor’s degree programs.
This interactive lecture is designed to explore the parallel educational systems in
information technology. It will examine
educational alternatives that some U.S. colleges and universities are
implementing as they seek to provide educational programs that prepare students
to meet the growing demands of industry. The lecture will also take a special look at the current role of
corporate training organizations, and at several of the more popular
industry-recognized certifications.
