"The Media Evolution"

Pre-Conference Dinner Keynote

There is no doubt media plays an influential role in our students’ lives.  In fact, most children spend an average of 6 ½ hours per day exposed to media.  However, students today are no longer satisfied simply passively consuming information; instead they want to be active participants.  From participating to producing, this presentation will explore the role media plays in today’s classroom and examine the research that supports its inclusion.

About our Pre-Conference Dinner Keynote

Scott Kinney serves as a strong advocate and voice for creative and effective applications of educational technology.  As the National Director of the Discovery Educator Network, a global community of educators passionate about teaching with digital media, sharing resources, collaborating, and networking, Scott currently leads the development of one of the largest and most active educator communities in the world.

Scott has presented at numerous national conferences including AESA, ASCD, FETC, NECC, T+L2, and has delivered keynote presentations at various prestigious conferences such as the Center for Advancing Partnerships in Education (CAPE), Virginia’s EdTech2007 conference and the Maryland K12 Digital Library Summit.  He has also co-authored multiple articles about using technology as a tool to help differentiate instruction including: “Creating a Differentiated Classroom,” (Leading and Learning with Technology) and “Teaching Every Child,” (Discovery Education Classroom Resource Guide).

Prior to joining Discovery Education as National Director of the 30,000 strong Discovery Educator Network, Scott was the Director of Educational Technologies at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit in Pennsylvania where he formerly served as the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction. He started his career in education as a Technology Coordinator in the Sharpsville Area School District.
