CAPE's New Director...

At its December 12, 2007 meeting, the CAPE Executive Board thanked retiring Executive Director, Jerry Richter, for his service and dedication to the organization since its inception in 1993. Formerly the organization's Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Richter served as Acting Executive Director from July - December 2003, when he was selected to fulfill the duties of the Executive Director position vacated by Dr. Galen Godbey. During Mr. Richter’s tenure, CAPE’s membership grew to an all-time high of 153 and membership benefits were expanded and enhanced.

During the same meeting, the Executive Board warmly welcomed Dr. James (Jay) W. Scott as its new Executive Director. Dr. Scott is no stranger to the education system, having served in such capacities as High School Teacher, Adjunct Professor, Middle and High School Principal and Superintendent. Most recently, he has served as Executive Director for both Lancaster-Lebanon IU 13 and Tuscarora IU 11.

While he was serving as Superintendent, the Spring Cove School District was awarded the $4 million Digital School District by then Governor Ridge. In addition, Dr. Scott is also very active in his community and has presented at numerous workshops and conferences. He has also served on a variety of Boards, such as the American Cancer Society, BlendedSchools.net, the Pennsylvania Leadership and Development Council, and CAPE’s own Executive Board to name a few.

Dr. Scott commented, "Never has there been a more important time in the history of public education than now for an organization like CAPE to exist to help educational systems partner for success. Mr. Richter and his staff have done a marvelous job of creating opportunities to use technology more efficiently and effectively. I look forward to working with our staff and existing partners in building new partnerships for learners everywhere."

Likewise, the CAPE Executive Board and Staff look forward to working with Dr. Scott as we anticipate his start date on January 16, 2008. Welcome!
